It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Lawrence Gates (Wilson, North Carolina), who passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Glenda Pike Gates; his parents, Joel E. Gates and Carlyne Hill Gates Grady; his stepfather Zack Grady; and his siblings, Jean Batten, Betty Barfield, Brenda Hobgood, Frank Gates, Robert Gates and Palmer Grady.
He is survived by: his children, Beth Gates Langley (Keith) of Rocky Mount, Larry Gates (Rhonda) of Wilson, Chris Gates (Teresa) of Black Creek and Greg Gates (Kelly) of Black Creek; and his sister Sue Eason. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren.
