He was predeceased by: his grandson Justin Owens; his parents, James Waddell and Estelle Barbee Waddell; and his brothers, Rudolph Waddell, Billy Waddell and Bobby Waddell.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Bass Waddell; his children, Debbie Griffin (Pee Wee), Tammy Jackson (Corky) and Jackie Waddell, Jr. (Shannon); his grandchildren, Travis Griffin (Sarah), Brittany Currie (Daeqwon) and Jackson Waddell (Logan); his great grandchildren, Henry, Joey Griffin, Saveyah, Enoch and Lou Currie; and his siblings, Joyce Brantley (Melvin), Faye Perry (Bobby), Linda Boykin (Joe), Brenda Crocker (Jimmy), Jimmy Waddell and Jerry Waddell.
