He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Arnette and Mary Moore Swain; his wife Dr. Myrtle Thompson Swain; and his sons, Kevin Thompson Swain and George Harry Swain, Jr..

He is survived by: his son Albert Craig Swain (Anne Thrasher Swain) of Huntsville, Alabama; his granddaughter Anna Swain Goodin (Robert); his great grandchildren, Catherine and Elizabeth Goodin of Durango, Colorado; his grandson Thomas A. Swain (Joseph Echols) of Homewood, Alabama; and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Curtis Swain of Chadds Ford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
