He was predeceased by: his wife Marjorie Driver Garris. He is survived by: his son Charles "Chip" Wayne Garris, Jr. (Robin) of Wilson; his grandchildren, Turner Garris and Mary Lynn Garris; his friend Martha Lou Murphey; his siblings, Pat Gardner of Wilson, Claudia Matthews (Mickey) of Wilmington and Donnie Garris of Wilson; and his pet Bella.
