He was predeceased by: his parents, Wiley Barnes and Getrude Barnes; his brother Wiley Barnes, Jr.; his sister-in-law Helen Barnes; and his niece Carol Brewer.

He is survived by: his nieces, Lou Griffith of Wilson and Lee Murphy (John) of Frederick, MD; his nephew Ned Barnes (Amy) of Carolina Beach; and his close friends, Pat Forbes and Tom Jones. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews.
