He was predeceased by: his wife Judy Baker Howell; and his parents, Henry and Hazel Taylor Howell of Greene County. He is survived by: his daughters, Rhonda Howell of Sims and Belynda Dietz (Jim) of Cleveland, GA; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Edmundson, Jennifer and Lee Futch; his great grandchildren, Ryan, Khaleb, Hayleigh, Morgan, Zakariah and Jordan; his stepchildren, Cindy Harrell (Steve) of Elm City and Nelson Boyette (Mary) of Durham; and his stepgrandson Will Woolard (Mari).
