He was predeceased by: his parents, Simuel Burney Smith and Maggie Tedder Smith; his siblings, Jimmy, Bobby, Billy Smith, Jeannie May Jones and Lila May Smith; his niece Pam Frederick; and his nephew Jason Cherry.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Smith; his son Christopher Burney Smith (Kristen); his grandchildren, Caleb, Jesse and Frannie; and his siblings, Thomas Smith (Ann), Dorothy Weir, Joyce Ezzell (Linwood) and Shirley Cherry. He is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Flowers may be sent to Freedom Baptist Church, or a donation made in Sammy's memory to the American Heart Association.
