He was predeceased by: his parents, Jean Cherewich and Alexander Cherewich. He is survived by: his children, Courtney Cherewich Jackson, Scott Cherewich, Tiffany Frasier, Justin Frasier-Wright and Tyler Cherewich; his wife Denise Barnett; and his brother Chris Cherewich. He is also survived by his wife and her family; his children; his grandchildren.

He was later honored for his contributions to high school sports with his induction to the NJ Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2023.
