She was predeceased by: her parents, Earlie G. Elrod and Dora Stout Elrod; and her brothers, Robert Elrod, James Elrod and Gordon Elrod.
She is survived by: her children, Susan Huffine Mercer (Jeff Mercer) and David Huffine (Susan Stern); and also Jennifer McRae. She is also survived by five grandchildren (Heather Oakley, Justin Mercer, Lauren Mercer, Will Huffine and Leigh Huffine) and five great-grandchildren.
Martha Jane Elrod Huffine, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and proponent of public education, died November 30, 2018, in Wilmington, North Carolina, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
