It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lilburne Dean Sheats in Wilmington, North Carolina, who passed away on February 13, 2024, at the age of 99, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Eugene Sheats and Fannie Barrett Sheats; and his daughter Suzanne Sheats. He is survived by: his children, Rose Sheats of Wilmington, NC, Elizabeth Wright of Holly Springs, NC, Philip Sheats of Garner, NC, Joseph Sheats (Sheila) of Wilmington, NC, James Anthony Sheats of Springfield, GA, Robert Hodge (Ann) of Katy, TX, Richard Hodge (Cindy) of Fredericksburg, VA, Ronald Hodge (Lisa) of Great Falls, VA, Barbara Schifflin (Barry) and Carol Stewart (Russ) of Fairfax, VA.. He is also survived by his grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Army Emergency Relief, to the National Museum of the Pacific War, or to the Kirk of Holly Springs Presbyterian.
