He was predeceased by: his parents, Otha McKinley and Lucille Shepherd Byrd; his daughters, Jackie Lynn Byrd and Christa Ann Byrd; and his siblings, Ezelle Garrison, Irene Scott, Nancy Gawrecki and Richard Anthony Byrd.
He is survived by: his sons, David Leon Byrd, Jr. and Jene Lee Byrd (Amy); his grandchildren, Brian Patrick Byrd, Bradley Michael Byrd, Daniel Lee Byrd and Lexi Byrd Grassley; his sisters, Sue Whitley and Marie Bryant; and his partner Shirley Joan Gebbia. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
