He was predeceased by: his father John F. Helmus, Jr.. He is survived by: his son Robert Helmus; his mother Barbara Helmus; and his siblings, Susan Johnsen (David) and John F. Helmus III (Maureen). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
