He was predeceased by : his parents, Virginia Smith and Woodrow Smith of Fairmont, NC.. He is survived by : his wife Miriam; and his children, Suzanne Huggins (Jim), Marte Ward (Jeff), Ginny Breece (Corey) and Bubba Smith (Connie). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Monday, June 17th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Oleander Memorial Gardens (Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington, NC).
