He is survived by: his children, John Larry Brooks and Jodene "Jodi" Kortman (Michael) of Birmingham, AL; his granddaughters, Ashlyn Kortman Peacock (Jacob) and Lauryn Denise Kortman; and his brother Robert Wayne Brooks of Williamston, NC..
