He is survived by: his mother Eleanor Ruth Howard of Greenville, NC; his children, James "JJ" Grimes Jr. of New Jersey, Shanelle Grimes of Virginia, Eleanor "Ellie" Grimes-Wansley (Darrin) of Virginia, Tonya Grimes of Virginia and Kena Grimes-Haines (Dwayne) of Virginia; and his sister Kathy. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 6 uncles, 7 aunts, 10 nephews, 5 nieces; a host of cousins, family and friends.
