He was predeceased by: his parents, William Lass and Julie Estella Faw Summerlin; and his sister Rosa Lee. He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Pat" Little Summerlin; his sons, Davey Summerlin (Sabrina) of Wilkesboro and Jason Summerlin (Rebecca) of Purlear; his stepsons, Chris Minton (Kristy) of Wilkesboro and Shane Minton (Teresa) of Millers Creek; his grandchildren, Emily Summerlin, Julie Summerlin, Justin Summerlin, Dylan Summerlin, Austin Summerlin, Johnathan "Homer" Mitchell, Kayla Minton, Ashley Minton, Jeffrey George (Katyln) and Jamie George; and his sisters, Sylvia Shoun (Doyle) of Purlear and Bessie Lovette (Henry) of Moravian Falls.
