He was predeceased by: his parents, Beatrice Carlton and Gordon Hayes; his wife Betty Carlton; and his brother James D. Carlton. He is survived by: his children, Julius David Carlton, Jr. of Dallas, James Bryan Carlton of Hope Mills, Lisa DeAnne Carlton Waller (Kevin) of Washington, D. C., Shamiah Denise Carlton of Durham and Kevin Christopher Wilborn (Jessica) of Wake Forest; his siblings-in-law, Ella Carlton of Asheville, Lois Saner of Boomer, Thomas Holloway of Greensboro and Walter Holloway of Winston Salem; and his grandchildren, Nyalls Carlton, Lailah Waller, Kimathi Waller, Kendall Wilborn, Kaleb Wilborn and Kingston Wilborn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
