He was predeceased by: his parents, Pritchard Shew and Frankie Anderson Shew; his wife Beverly Call Shew; his children, Abigail Shew and John William "Jay" Shew; and his siblings, Rosezell Williams, Blanche Shew and Hubert Shew.
He is survived by: his children, Diane Shew Hall (Harvey) of North Wilkesboro, Peggy Shew of Wilkesboro, Ray Shew (Terrie) of Wilkesboro and Gwyn Shew (Billie Jo) of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Johnathan Shew, Tosha Walker, Adam Shew, Amanda Chambers, Catherine Rhoades and Clifford Hall; and his siblings, Dorothy Perry, Christine Greene, Shirley Bowlin, Lucille Johnson, Della Williams, Haywood Shew, Major Shew, Gary Anderson and Larry Anderson. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
