He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Laudie Ernest and Nannie Hart Dimmette; his siblings, Ervin H. Dimmette, Dulcie Barlow and Laudie Porter; his grandmother Spainhour; his wife Glenda J. Dimmette; his stepdaughter Kimberly Bush (Barry); and his grandchildren, Alexander, Harrison Cole, Claire Bell Scharfen, Lindsay, Graham Bell, Ella, Amber, Danielle and Melissa Bush. He was also cherished by three daughters.

Joel's one request was that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to his beloved church, First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, P.O. Box 458, N. Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
