He is survived by: his wife Debbie Minton Shumate; his sons, Mark Shumate (Angela) of Hickory, Shaun Shumate (Jamie) of Elkin, David Shumate (Amanda) of North Wilkesboro and James Shumate of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Zachary Shumate, Blake Shumate, Brooklyn Bell, Bryson Shumate, Imogen Shumate, Isabella Shumate, Brailee Shumate, Jude Shumate, Drew Johnson and Sydney Shumate; his great grandchildren, Braxtin Johnson, Baker Johnson and Delilah Mae; and his siblings, Debbie Childress (Bobby) of North Wilkesboro, Sherrie Roope (Steve) of Hays, Kenneth Shumate (Stella) of Lumberton, Rickey Shumate of North Wilkesboro and Nancy Minton Orvis.
