He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Monroe Shumate and Essie Jenkins Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Minton Shumate; his sons, Mark Shumate (Angela) of Hickory, Shaun Shumate (Jamie) of Elkin, David Shumate (Amanda) of North Wilkesboro and James Shumate of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Zachary Shumate, Blake Shumate, Brooklyn Bell, Bryson Shumate, Imogen Shumate, Isabella Shumate, Brailee Shumate, Jude Shumate, Drew Johnson and Sydney Shumate; his great grandchildren, Braxtin Johnson, Baker Johnson and Delilah Mae; and his siblings, Debbie Childress (Bobby) of North Wilkesboro, Sherrie Roope (Steve) of Hays, Kenneth Shumate (Stella) of Lumberton, Rickey Shumate of North Wilkesboro and Nancy Minton Orvis.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 from 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home (270 Armory Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Chapel (270 Armory Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659).
