With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Helen Sue Sturgill of Whittier, North Carolina, who passed away on January 16, 2021 at the age of 76. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Roger Sturgill; her parents, Samuel Short and Maudie Short; and her siblings, J. C., Billy Ray, Bob Short, Melba Lee Balsink, Ruth Chaney and Elizabeth Jewel Willis.
She is survived by: her children, Tom Sturgill (Carole) of Bryson City and Angela Ellison of Bryson City; her grandchildren, Candice Sage Mathis of Bryson City and Garreth Mathis of Georgia; and her sisters, Mary Lois Cantrell of Ohio and Carolyn South of Virginia. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren.
