He was predeceased by: his father Clarence Wesley Benson; his wife Essie Benson; his daughter Donna Little; and his granddaughter Vicki Keeter Strom. He is survived by: his nephews, Johnie Keeter, Sr. (Sandra) of Harvest and Vernon Keeter of Whiteville, NC; and his granddaughter Marian "Libby" Piispanen (Richard) of Stevensville, MD. He is also survived by nephews, 5 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great-great Grandchildren and several cousins.
