He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Spivey and Lizzie McKee Spivey; his wife Pauline Creech Spivey; and his children, William O'Neil "Billy" Spivey and Delores Rowe.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sheila Godwin (Andy) of Whiteville, Susan Slater of Whiteville and Sherry Jean Hobbs (Tommy) of Carver's Creek; his sisters, Gail Spivey of Chadbourn, Nellie Spivey of Chadbourn, Phystic Elmani of California and Eula Cheatham of Whiteville; and also, Buddy Spivey (Sue) of Clarendon and James Spivey (Brenda) of Chadbourn. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
