He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Poe Benton and Lenora Madge Grissom Benton; his wife Yvonne Fowler Benton; his daughter Billie Benton Smith; and his brother Rufus Carey Benton.
He is survived by: his son-in-law Chris Smith of Whiteville; his children, Perry Benton (Lisa) of Bladenboro, Bobbie Benton Clemmons (Michael) of Whiteville and Gennie Benton Parnell (Mike) of Whiteville; his sister Bertie Lanehart (James) of Whiteville; and his grandchildren, Matt Smith, Morgan Smith, Adrian Robertson, Jackie Blackmon, Reid Benton, Bryce Parnell, Matt Hill and Mason Hill. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
