He was predeceased by: his father Earlie Major; and his siblings, Howard Smith, Johnny Smith, Kay Smith, Virginia Tyree and Mary Lou Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Smith (Amy) of Evergreen, NC, Kristy Walters of Tabor City, NC and Sandi Chapman (Mark) of Whiteville, NC; his sisters, Doretha Walker of Whiteville, NC, Joyce Stanley of Clarendon, NC and Gail Ward of Whiteville, NC; and his grandchildren, Kayla Bunch Anthony Chapman (Justin), Dustin Chapman, Tyler Clewis, Savannah Rittenhouse (Kynston), Morgan Walters (Cody), Jace Walters and Logan Smith. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren.
