She was predeceased by: her parents, David Austin and Inez Barden Melvin; her husband Winfred "Pete" C. Melvin; her brother Barden Melvin; her grandson Samuel "Sammy" W. Johnson, Jr.; and her great grandchild Jude Mills.
She is survived by: her children, Charles Melvin (Donna) of White Oak, Connie Lowery (Britton) of Lumberton, Pat Gooden (David) of Elizabethtown and Rose Johnson (Wayne) of Bladenboro; her sister Betty Bruton of Wilmington; and her grandchildren, Chris, Channing, Jason, Crystal, Matthew, Dana, Dustin and Brittney.
