He was predeceased by: his parents, Will Mitchell and Bertha Hutchens Mitchell; his brother Tom Mitchell; his nephews, Bob Frans, Eddie Frans and Blaine Nunn; and his brothers-in-law, Junior Rogers, Robert Frans, James Watts and Walter Forrest.
He is survived by: his wife Helen; his daughter Delana Vickers (Will) of Winston-Salem; his grandsons, Alex Vickers of Winston-Salem and Trey Vickers (Sara) of Washington, DC; his siblings, Wayne Mitchell (Anita), Sarah Rogers and Frances Frans; and his sisters-in-law, Katherine Forrest, Ruth Watts and Norma Nunn (Alcury).
