It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hazel Pennell (West Jefferson, North Carolina), who passed away on May 17, 2020, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Hazel Pennell to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Carlton and Lois Brown Graybeal of Fig; her husband Roby Doyle Pennell; and her siblings, Hubert Dexter Graybeal, Walbert Raymond Graybeal and Marye Margaret Graybeal Wilson.
She is survived by: her children, Gary Pennell (Janet) of Chattanooga, TN, Sheri Lawrence of Wilmington, NC and Karen Powell (Bob) of Fleetwood; her grandchildren, Graham Do of Chattanooga, TN, Morgan Lawrence of Bunn, NC, Zach Lawrence of West Jefferson and Callie Powell of Fleetwood; her nephews, Larry Graybeal (Patricia) of Foscoe and Carlton McNeill of West Jefferson; her great-nephew Brian Graybeal of San Antonio, TX; and her cousins, Doris Oliver of West Jefferson and Darrell Graybeal of Creston, NC. She is also survived by her children, grandchildren, friends.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor her memory, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Ashe Advancement Fund, P.O. Box 31, West Jefferson, NC 28694, for a college scholarship to be established for need-based Ashe County students who wish to pursue musical degree programs.
