He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Herbert Johnson and Lillie Esther Champion Johnson; his wife Georgia Eskijian Johnson; his children, Lilli Ann Johnson, Melinda Johnson (Dan Andersen) and George Herbert Johnson; his grandchildren, Laura Ann Hunt and Sebastian Johnson Andersen; and his siblings, William "Albert" Johnson of Fayetteville, Judson Battle Johnson of Wendell, Maurice Lee Johnson of Wendell, Linda "Joyce" Creech (Stacy) of Zebulon and Esther "Genevieve" McClean of Fuquay-Varina.
