It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John William Hurt of Wendell, North Carolina, who passed away on April 22, 2024, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Gladys Hamilton and Mack Henry Hurt; his daughter Wanda Kay Hurt; and his brothers, Robert Lee Hurt and Arthur Ray Hurt.

He is survived by: his daughters, Betty Hurt Brantley (Rick) of Sparta and Rhonda Hurt Smith (Scott) of Benson; his grandchildren, Brandi Dean, Tiffany Brantley Gresham (Chris) and Lucas Smith (Melissa); and his great grandchildren, Taylor Dean, Elisha Dean, Luke Smith and Kade Smith. He is also survived by five great-great grandchildren.
