He was predeceased by: his parents, Buren Smith and Esther Smith; his brothers, Charles and D. V. Smith; and his grandson Jacob Spain.
He is survived by: his wife Betty; his children, Tim Atkinson (Allyson) of Wendell and Jennifer Spain (Garry); and his grandchildren, Rachel, Colton and Sam (Olivia).
