He was predeceased by: his mother Bernice Cecil "B. C."; and his sister Rebecca W. Long. He is survived by: his wife Joy Hamlin Mangum; his children, Mary Susan Williams (Dan) of Henderson and Malcolm A. Mangum, Jr. (DeAnne) of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Spencer Mangum, Anne Mangum, Michelle Foster and Elizabeth Woodall; his great grandchild Carsyn Foster; and his siblings, Sherrill Duncan of St, Jane Mangum of Roxboro, Whitt Walker of Hillsborough, Conley Mangum of Rougemont, Bill Mangum of Rougemont and John Mangum of Rougemont.
