He is survived by: his daughters, Karen Timmons Ellison (Leslie) of Gastonia and Leslie Timmons of Seattle, Washington; his grandson Gordon Ellison (Lauren) of Burlington; his sister Lelia "Timmy" Anmore of Freeport, Illinois; his nephew Baxter Turnham of Freeport, IL; and his niece Ruth Stokes Vega.

The family suggests donations in Richard's memory to Indian Trail Presbyterian Church (200 Indian Trail Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079).
