He was predeceased by: his parents, George Alexander Clayton and Sallie Parker Clayton; and his siblings, Broadus Miller, Wade and Roy Clayton.
He is survived by: his wife Owonna Smith Clayton of Weddington; his daughters, Mimi Clayton (Thorne Martin) of Pittsboro and Sally Higgins (John) of Weddington; and his grandchildren, Charlie, Caroline and Collin Higgins. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Baptist Church of Albemarle, Novant Hospice, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
