It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Eugene Early McDowell III (Webster, North Carolina), born in Greensboro, North Carolina, who passed away on April 24, 2020, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene E. McDowell (Mac) and Mildred Bain McDowell of Greensboro, NC.; his sister Nancy McDowell Newton of Columbus, GA; and his niece Anna McDowell Nash of Raleigh. He is survived by: his friend Dr. Judith Stillion; his wife Suzanne Hill McDowell; and his children, Julia McDowell Townsend (Tony) of Sylva, Susan McDowell Cooper (Tommy) of Candler, Eugene E. McDowell IV (Sherry) of Eden, Kimberly Baker Stewart (Ian) of Leicester and Meghan Baker of Asheville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked that all who wish to honor Gene do so by modeling his greatest qualities of offering kindness, compassion, and encouragement to others.
