She was predeceased by: her parents, Rufus Smathers and Bertha Derrick Smathers; her siblings, Gordon Smathers, Rufus Eugene, William Kenneth, Willis "Bud" Franklin Smathers, Carene Lewis, Mildred Medford, Bessie Wood, Dorothy Clark, Phyllis Roper, Margie Stamey and Patricia Nix; her nephews, Steve Smathers, Johnny Lewis and Thomas Smathers; and her niece Fran Drinnon.
She is survived by: her close friend David Justice. She is also survived by nieces; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22nd 2024 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Garrett Funerals and Cremations (460 N Main St, Waynesville, NC 28786).
