He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Frederich Howard, Sr. and Dorothy Jean Bruns Howard. He is survived by: his children, Tim Howard of Charlotte and Krista Watkins (Scott Watkins); his grandchildren, Emily, Clay, Abby and Griffin of Chapel Hill; and his sisters, Judy Snyder of Elk Grove, IL and Patty Howard of Florence Alabama. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and many friends.
