He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Stamey and Nettie Miller Stamey; and his son Eric Stamey. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Smathers Stamey; his son Jerry Stamey of Asheville; his grandson Dakota Stamey; and his great grandchild Weston Nef.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2312 Smokey Park Highway, Candler, NC 28715.
