He was loved and cherished by many people including: his children, Erik, Elissa Mount (Jeremy), Nathalie Santos (Frederico) and Martin Steffen (Kasey); his daughter-in-law Kelly Lindell; his sister Siegrid Steffen; and his parents, Else Steffen and Reimar Gustav Steffen. He was also cherished by eleven grandchildren.
