He is survived by: his wife Linda James Lanning; his former wife Joyce Killian (Sissy); his siblings, Nancy Smith, Reba Cox and Wayne Lanning; and his children, Tammy Cole (James), Pam Lanning (Cindy Lanning), Steve Lanning (Shannon Lanning), Annie Shuler (Chris Shuler), Kim Ledford (Scott Ledford), Joey Lanning (Christy Coffey Lanning) and Benny Lanning (Amanda Ledford Lanning).
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 30th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dellwood Baptist Church (115 Hall Dr, Waynesville, NC 28785). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 31st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Lusk Baptist Church (16575 NC-209, Hot Springs, NC 28743).
