She was predeceased by: her husband Charles, Sr.; her son Charles, Jr.; her siblings, Louise Furr and Plato Curtis Tate; and her grandmother Tinsley Alexander Liner.
She is survived by: her parents, Joshua Curtis and Mary Lee Hollifield Tate; her stepmother Cora Jane Dellinger; her children, Michael Tate Balentine of Dillsboro, John Curtis Balentine (Susan) of Waynesville and Beverly Balentine Brown of Balsam; and her close friend Patricia Blackwell Balentine Kennedy of Winston-Salem.
