She was predeceased by: her parents, William Johnston Leatherwood and Mayme Liner Leatherwood; her former husband Carl Chestnut Matthews; her husband Mack Vickery; her son Kenneth William Matthews; and her sister Frances Leatherwood Adams.
She is survived by: her daughter Dr. Pamela Matthews Whalen; her grandson Simon Whalen of San Diego, CA; her son Brian Charles Matthews (Jennifer) of Atlanta, GA; her siblings, Nancy Duckett, Patsy Cook (Charles), Lynda Leonard (Steve) and Joseph Charles Leatherwood of Waynesville; and her close friends, Mary Medley and Lynda McCammon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19, there will a private family gathering but no memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church, 2177 Russ Ave, Waynesville, NC 28786.
