She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Scott and Mary Katherine Fitzgerald Dixon; her husband David T. Benton; her grandson Brad Lewis; her siblings, Dorothy Mae Payne, Edward Dixon, Margaret Ann McCoy and Thomas Earl Dixon; and her daughter-in-law Melissa Benton.
She is survived by: her children, Joy Lewis (Tommy) of Wilmington, John Benton (Connie) of Fayetteville, James Benton of Watha, Alan Benton (Amy) of Rose Hill and Steven Benton of Kure Beach; her grandchildren, Ryan Lewis (Ashley), Drake Lewis (Shleby), Samatha, Kayla Benton (Zack), Kristina Benton, Kaitlyn Benton, Michael Benton (Sarah) and Hope Benton (Ramiel); her great grandchildren, Jaxon, Railee, Eli, Sonny, Kamden, Madison and Ellie; her siblings, Ruth Shut (Roy) and Paul Dixon of Rose Hill; and her friend Mary. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be sent in memory of Mary Benton to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
