He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie William and Aline Wells; and his brothers, Bennie W. Wells and Ray Wells. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Whitley Wells; his siblings, Phillip Ira Wells (Terry) and Faye Brown (Leamon); his nieces, Jessica Hudson, Melissa Daniel (Keith), Allyson Wells and Dreama Tirasedtanun; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Wells. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.
