It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Samuel Smith Sr. of Washington, North Carolina, born in Beaufort, North Carolina, who passed away on January 31, 2023, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Hyman L. Smith and Thelma Evans Smith Whitley; and his siblings, Chuck "Ivey" Savant, Hyman Smith, Jr., Al Smith, Dallas Smith, Mickey Smith, Virginia Evans, Edna Ewing and Evelyn Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Brooks; his children, Samuel "Sammy" Milton Smith, Jr. of Greenville, NC and Renée Smith Norton (Carter) of Richmond, VA; his grandchildren, Caroline Phillips Norton and Samuel Maxwell Norton; and his siblings, Gerald Smith of Jacksonville, NC, Doris Sparrow of Atlantic Beach, NC, Nellie Williams of New Bern, NC, Mable Howell of Cary, NC, Glynda Crousore of Kokomo, IN and Janet Faccinto of Baxter, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 113 North Harvey Street, Washington, N.C. 27889, or the charity of one's choice.
