He was predeceased by: his parents, Mattie Winfield Woolard Black and Floyd Milburn Black; his brothers, Gerald, Cedric, Wayland and Phil; and his siblings-in-law, Peggy Woolard Black and Ronnie Staton.

He is survived by: his brothers, Farms and Frankie; his sister-in-law Peggy Pendleton; his wife Peggy Pendleton Black; his children, Taylor Black (Heather) of Washington, Anna Gay (Chris) of Rocky Mount and Katy Swain (Aaron) of Greenville; his grandchildren, Parker Gay, Colson Gay, Lorelai Swain, Addison Swain and Stella Katherine Swain; and his siblings-in-law, JoAnn Black, Barbara Black, Polly Staton, Larry Pendleton (Tommie Lou) and George Pendleton (Cynthia). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Beaver Dam Church of Christ by.
