He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Denise Sheppard; his sons, Thomas Sheppard (Karen), Richard Sheppard (Lisa), Lynn Sheppard (Yvonne) and Ronnie Barringer (Michelle); his sister Hope; his siblings-in-law, Dick Van Dorp, Linda Sheppard, Diana Castleberry and Glenn Castleberry; his parents, Lyman, Sr. Sheppard and Esdale Popperville Sheppard; his grandmothers, Ara Bennett Popperville and Rose Sheppard; his brothers, Leonard Sheppard and Donald Reynolds; and his former wife Violet Phelps Sheppard. He was also cherished by several grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Flowers are welcomed or donations in his memory may be made to Pinetown Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund or Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund OR in Lyman's memory take a friend out to eat fried chicken or take a friend fishing.
