He was predeceased by: his daughter Vicki Shannon Belthoff; and his brother Joseph David Alligood. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ann Fisher Alligood; his children, Dalton Ray "D. R." Alligood Jr. (Katie), Christopher Gray Alligood (Holly) and Dawn Watkins; his grandchildren, Kevin Todd, Jessica Lauren, Cody Gray, Rhett Hamilton, Rhys Fisher, Rhynn Marie Alligood, Jason Belthoff and Ashley Belthoff; his great grandchild Makayla Leigh Kirk; and his son Chris. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Innerbanks Canine Rescue, P.O. Box 1, Washington, NC 27889 to help rescue animals.
