He was predeceased by: his parents, Walton Hamm and Annie Laurie Beaman Hamm; his wife Loretta Harrell "Tootsie" Hamm; his daughter Loretta Leigh Hamm; and his siblings, Ann H. Vick, Sandra H. Dawson, Marshall Hamm and Kenneth Hamm.
He is survived by: his children, Phyllis Hamm Chesson (Hal) of Snow Hill and Stuart Alton "Al" Hamm (Susan) of Emerald Isle; his sisters, Betty H. Hardy of Raleigh and Diane H. Barbour (Larry) of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Christopher Chesson (Lauren) of Snow Hill, Kelly Chesson Cobb (Michael) of Farmville, Keri Chesson Sugg (Chris) of Grifton, Anna Hamm Winslow (Lloyd) of Scotland Neck, Caroline Hamm of Pinetops and Stuart Hamm of Honolulu, Hawaii; his great grandchildren, Lillian Chesson, Logan Cobb, Londyn Cobb, Grey Sugg, Gabe Sugg, Ainsley Winslow, Chip Winslow and Eva Kate Winslow; his sister-in-law Penny H. Sugg (Stanley) of Snow Hill; and his caregivers, Debbie Pettaway and Sylvia Ward. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
