He was predeceased by: his parents, Algie Matthews and Lillie Mae Williams Matthews; his wife Betty W. Matthews; and his siblings, Wayland Matthews, William Matthews, Dorothy Moore, Sue Scronce, Sarah Farney and Maomia Jones.
He is survived by: his children, Robert "Bobby" Dale Matthews, Jr. (Vickie) of Williamston and Mary Jayne Matthews of Greenville; his grandsons, Drew Matthews (Sarah) and Trent Matthews (Courtney); his great grandchildren, Mary Cameron Matthews, Maddox Matthews, Winston Matthews and Declan Matthews; and his sisters, Lillian Wood and Reba Tiller. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Wallace United Methodist Church, 301 S College St Wallace, NC 28466.
